Ken & Amy Maverick
For Ken and Amy Maverick, bringing whiskey production back to downtown San Antonio began with a much larger project: preserving a piece of the city's history. They spent more than two years restoring the historic Lockwood National Bank building, located on the original Maverick family homestead, before opening Maverick Distilling within its walls.
The connection runs deeper than the building. While researching his family history, Ken discovered references in Mary Maverick's writings to the grains grown and used by the family in 19th-century Texas. Those records helped inspire Maverick's approach to whiskey today — not as an attempt to recreate a historic recipe, but as a modern interpretation of the family's connection to Texas grain, place and independence.
Together, Ken and Amy have transformed that history into a working distillery, brewery and gathering place in the heart of San Antonio.
