Uncut, Unfiltered, Straight From the Barrel
Samuel Maverick Barrel Proof Straight Bourbon is bottled exactly as it comes out of the barrel — uncut and non-chill filtered, at full barrel strength. The mash bill is 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley.
Bottling at barrel proof means nothing is added and nothing is stripped away. Every batch varies, and every bottle carries the full weight of the oak, the grain, and the Texas summers the barrel sat through.
At 114 proof this is a bourbon with weight and reach. Neat it rewards patience; a few drops of water open it up considerably. It also holds its own in a cocktail where a lower-proof whiskey would disappear.
Colour, nose, palate and finish for this expression have not been supplied yet. Once Maverick provides them they will sit here in the same four-row format used on the in-distribution pages.
Most whiskey is proofed down with water before bottling, to hit a consistent strength across every batch. A barrel-proof whiskey skips that step: what went into the bottle is what came out of the cask.
The trade-off is consistency. Each barrel finishes at its own strength, so batches differ — which is the point. Non-chill filtering keeps the oils and esters that carry flavour, so the whiskey may cloud slightly when cold. That is a feature, not a fault.
